DTN COMMENTS:  A few dressed deals have been reported sold in Eastern 
Nebraska, at $372, fully steady with last week's weighted average. A few 
bids are on the table in Texas, but so far, they are being passed as they 
are well below current asking prices of $238 to $240. We expect that 
packer inquiry will continue to improve as the day progresses, but it is 
very possible that significant trade volume could be delayed until 
sometime on Friday. 

Today's slaughter totaled 97,000 head, 9,000 less than the previous week, 
and 23,000 below a year ago. Live cattle futures closed mostly moderately 
higher, up 57 to 95, while feeder issues ended the day sharply higher, up 
105 to 195. Beef cutouts are expected to close lower with light to 
moderate box movement.
